Kenny's Korner - When God Shows Up

Greetings everyone. I hope this article finds you well and blessed until your cup
runneth over. Man, I couldn’t wait to get to this article so I could share the following story
with you.
This past Sunday after our church service, I stopped to pick up a few things at the local Walmart on my way home. I was heading down the trail mix aisle and there was a gentleman there looking at the raisins. I crossed in front of him, and of course I said
“excuse me sir”. He said “no problem brother”, to which I replied “thank you sir”. Well, he
then asked me if I was a Christian, and I said, “yes I am.”
He said, “man I knew it, I could tell from the minute that I saw you.”
Now keep in mind, I wasn’t dressed fancy to make him think I just came from church, nor
was I singing or whistling any gospel songs, but at that moment I thought, “what made
this man recognize that I love Jesus?” To be honest, I was honored, humbled, and just
amazed that he knew I was a Christian.
The man at this point began testifying to me about how he was a sinner until the age of
19 when he turned his life around and gave it to Jesus. He said he was now 28 years old
and takes every opportunity to spread the word of God.
He went on and on and I just listened......really listened, to everything he had to say.
He spoke quite fast, and had so much to say, that I could tell he was very excited to be
sharing the gospel with me.
I finally asked him his name and he said it was Quenton. I told him my name and we
shook hands and actually gave each other a hug. I told him how much I appreciated his
words and that he had no idea how much he blessed me today.
You see..... I, like most of you out there, have things going on in my life that aren't so
great right now. The devil is always working, believe me. Overtime in fact. So Quenton
came along at just the right time for me.
He had one last request. He asked me if I would pray for him. I happily obliged and as I
began to pray for him, out loud, in the middle of the aisle at Walmart, in Auburndale
Florida, he also began to pray for me, out loud as well. (I was so moved you would’ve
thought I was in the onion aisle). We parted ways with the “cool bro hug again” and I
heard him say, “I love you brother” and I said the same back to him. It was such an
amazing moment that I needed, or maybe he needed, but the cool thing.... is that God
showed up.
As I was walking away, I thought to myself: with everything that’s going on in this world
today that keeps us divided (politics, race, you name it), two completely different
strangers, from different cultures and backgrounds, were brought together by a God who
shows up when we need Him most. To encourage, to love, and to let us know that He
has got us, even when we are at our lowest. What an honor it is to know Him and to feel
His love in the way that I felt it that day.
The bible verse that I believe fits this scenario best, is none other than Matthew 18:20;
For where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them.
And there He was indeed.
Until next time, may the Lord bless you.
Love you all,
-Kenny
